For senior Parker Bunch, a physics major on the pre-med track, Rockhurst University has been a place of growth, learning and community. As he reflects on his time as a Hawk, his journey has been defined by his academic achievements and strong connections with student organizations, especially with the Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) fraternity.
One of Bunch’s most impactful academic experiences at Rockhurst has been studying medical imaging, a field that uses technology to create images of the body for diagnostic and treatment purposes. This semester, he has been learning how various imaging techniques work, including X-rays, ultrasonography, CT scans, MRIs and mammography. This knowledge will be valuable as Bunch pursues a career as a physician, attending medical school at St. Louis University after graduation.
Outside of the classroom, PIKE has become his home at Rockhurst. His fraternity brothers have become his support system and he considers them some of his closest friends that he will have for the rest of his life.
“PIKE is where I have met the most genuine people,” said Bunch.
His leadership roles on campus, including serving as student senate vice president, orientation coordinator and PIKE’s health and safety chair, reflect his dedication to both his academic and personal communities.
Looking back at his proudest moments, Bunch recalls the service trips he has taken, especially the one in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with his PIKE brothers.
“We spent time cutting wood for elderly people who needed it to heat their homes. It was an incredible experience to help out in such a direct way,” said Bunch.
These service opportunities have allowed him to connect and give back to diverse communities.
Bunch’s involvement reflects the Rockhurst core value of Contemplation in Action, which focuses on justice through leadership and service.
As he prepares for the next chapter of his journey, he offers simple yet powerful advice to incoming students: find your people, go to everything you can and step out of your comfort zone.
From sitting around campfires with fraternity brothers to planning events and helping lead others, engaging with the community and joining student organizations has shaped Bunch’s unforgettable college experience. Through academics, leadership and service, Bunch has left his mark on Rockhurst University.
