As she is on her way to medical school, senior Abigail Salanski’s journey has been defined by her leadership and involvement at Rockhurst University.
Over the last four years, she has established a home for herself through sisterhood bonds and knowing the campus like the back of her hand. To Salanski, home is growing closer to her sorority sisters, laughing with her roommates and working hard to achieve her dreams.
Salanski’s favorite Rockhurst experience has been serving as the president of the Alpha Sigma Alpha (ASA) sorority. She has been able to see the growth of her leadership first-hand through the effort and value she puts into the sisters that she leads.
Through this role, Salanski has grown closer to all the women in ASA. Her sisters have a great role model to look up to, as Salanski is determined in her academics and intentional in her relationships. Her favorite memories have been participating in sisterhood events, formals and events through the sorority.
“My Rockhurst experience would have not been the same without my ASA sisters,” Salanski.
Alpha Phi Omega (APO), a service fraternity on campus, has also seen extreme growth as a result of Salanski’s commitment to helping those in need. As a freshman, Salanski was one of only 10 members that were willing to devote time to the aid others.
She quickly saw a need for leadership and became the president of APO. Salanski’s hope was to have more of an impact on the Rockhurst community and surrounding neighborhoods. With her devotion to her school and the people it serves, Salanski recruited 50 members who now dedicate their time to better Kansas City and the Rockhurst community.
Salanski’s career goal quickly emerged at Rockhurst with the opportunity to apply early to Saint Louis University’s School of Medicine. With great grades and involvement on campus, she was the perfect candidate. Upon graduation in May, she will transition into medical school quickly after.
“I would not have been able to achieve this without the support system of my family, friends, and professors at Rockhurst,” said Salanski.
Through her involvement as president of both ASA and APO and achieving her undergraduate career goal, Abigail Salanski is the definition of pouring time and energy into her passions. As she looks forward to the future and becoming a doctor, she will always consider Rockhurst a home.
“My advice to incoming students at Rockhurst would be to get involved. Push yourself out of your comfort zone because you never know what clubs or activities you may end up enjoying,” said Salanski.
