Rockhurst (15-17) combines for 11 total hits in the second game of the double header to win 14-2 over the Blue Tigers. Six separate Hawks had hits in the game while five Hawks drove in runs. Rockhurst scored in every inning of the seven-inning ball game. The Hawks lost the first game 6-4.

Rockhurst led off the first inning putting up a four spot thanks to some help from Lincoln starting pitching. The Blue Tigers threw 10 consecutive balls before throwing a strike putting two runners on base. Sophomore Brett Marr loaded the bases with a hit through the right side before redshirt senior Jake Jones hit a ground ball to the shortstop in the hole for a RBI fielder’s choice, scoring the leadoff hitter, senior Calin McCourt. Senior Caleb Baker followed with a RBI single through the left side. Sophomore David Stober came up and ripped a two-run bases clearing double to deep center plating Baker and Jones.

The Hawks continued to put up crooked numbers with two, one, three, two, one and one runs in the second through seventh inning. In the fourth inning with the bases loaded, Baker roped a ball past the diving third baseman for a bases clearing double. He recorded three RBI on the hit.

The long ball powered the Hawks as they blasted three home runs over the fence. Freshman Jeremy Lufft led the attack as he knocked one ball over then fence in left, and then in his next at bat, drove one over the wall in center. Stober also added a homerun to right center field as well.

Lufft led the Hawks going 3-4, scoring two runs and driving in four. Baker and Stober also added multi-hit games finishing 2-3 and 2-4 respectively. Baker ended the game with one run scored and four RBI while Stober ended with one run scored and three RBI. He also pitched two innings. After a leadoff homerun, he settled down and recorded the next six outs while striking out three.

Sophomore Chase Leavy, Freshman Nick Pascuzzi, Baker and Stober each added doubles in the game.

Freshman Miles Kilgore took the bump for the Hawks making his fourth start of the 2015 season. He was able to 4.0 innings, giving up one run on four hits, one walk while striking out three. Kilgore moves to 1-2 on the season earning his first collegiate win. Redshirt junior Thomas Cargile came in the final inning to retire the last three batters, striking out two.

In game one, it was Lincoln who jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off a solo home run by leftfielder Kaleb Davis. He leads the Blue Tigers with a .395 batting average.

Rockhurst was able to answer back in the fourth inning after Marr reached base on a hit-by-pitch, Baker singled to center and Jones forced a walk. Stober then entered the batter’s box and drove a deep fly ball to right-center plating Marr for a sacrifice fly.

Lincoln opened the fifth inning with a leadoff double followed by a single up the middle to put the Tigers in the lead 2-1.   Senior pitcher Trenton Perry entered the game in relief following back-to-back hits to work out of the jam stranding the runner on base.

After back-to-back walks for redshirt senior Matt Stacks and Baker, Jones hammered a ball through the left side scoring the pinch runner Pascuzzi. Stober followed with stroke to left-center allowing Baker to score from second base.

To open the top of the seventh inning, Marr stepped up to the plate and crushed a ball over the left field wall for a solo home run. He now has leads the team four long balls.

Heading to the bottom of the seventh with a 4-2, the wheels fell off for the Hawks. Rockhurst was able to get two quick outs with a base hit mixed in between. A walk and a single loaded the bases putting the winning run on first. Nick Lovell stepped to the plate and after working a 2-2 count and fouling a couple pitches off, he connected for a walk-off grand slam to left field. He finished 2-4 scoring one run scored and drove in four.

McCourt paced the Hawks going 3-4 with a stolen base while Marr, Baker, Jones and Stober added one hit a piece to total seven.

Sophomore Andrew Ellwanger started the game going 4.0 innings, giving up two runs on five hits, no walks and two strikeouts. He handed the ball over to senior Perry who went 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on four hits one walk and two strikeouts. He took the loss and moves to 0-4 on the season.

The Hawks return to action when they travel to St. Louis, Mo., where they will take on the GLVC rival Maryville Saints in a four-game series. Both games are scheduled to start at noon on Saturday (April 11) and Sunday (April 12). All four games will be broadcasted on the All-Access Hawks Network. It is still to be determined whether there will be audio-only or video coverage of the game.
