The euphonious chime you hear marking the start of every new hour, the prominent structure you pass on every walk to class, Rockhurst University’s iconic Bell Tower stands as an omnipresent representation and visual of the renowned institution.
While the tower may appear to be simply a historical landmark, it has become a part of who Rockhurst University is. Having been built in 2000 as part of one of the largest campus expansion plans, the tower spans 93 feet tall; the peak symbolizing the university’s aim to soar to new heights both in the classroom and in the real world.
The Bell Tower remains still and uninhabited, the inside being closed off to the public, but Sentinel reporters Benjamin Del Vecchio and Colby Goddard had the privilege of taking a tour to the top. Scan the QR code to watch as Ben and Colby ascend the ladder into the darkness and learn more about the history of the tower!
