The FIFA World Cup is approaching, and the Kansas City region is preparing to welcome an international audience as one of the tournament’s host sites. Along with an influx of global visitors, several of the world’s top national teams will use facilities across the metro area as training bases.
Kansas City has been selected as a host city for Algeria, the Netherlands, England and defending World Cup champion Argentina. Matches will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, one of the tournament’s U.S. venues, which is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans from around the world. Argentina is slated to compete in group-stage play in Kansas City, further elevating the city’s profile during the tournament.
Algeria will train at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas. In the 2022 tournament, Algeria did not advance beyond the group stage.
The Netherlands will train at the Kansas City Current facility in Riverside, Missouri. In the 2022 World Cup, the Dutch advanced to the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by Argentina.
England will hold training sessions at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri. England also reached the quarterfinals in 2022 before being knocked out by France.
Defending champion Argentina will train at the Compass Minerals National Performance Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
While these teams will be based in the Kansas City area, they will travel to other host cities across the United States for additional group-stage matches.
