Rockhurst soccer teams make leaps in national rankings

Both the men’s and women’s Rockhurst soccer teams are nationally ranked after six GLVC conference games. Additionally, both teams remain undefeated with 5-0-1 records in GLVC play.

The men are sitting at #1 in the NCAA Division II rankings. This is the first time in school history that the men’s soccer team has been ranked first in the country.

The women’s team jumped two spots from last week to #21 in the rankings after two big road wins last weekend. This is the first time that the women have been nationally ranked since 2014.

Both teams are preparing for two very important home games this weekend. The Hawks face Quincy on Friday night and Truman State on Sunday. Truman State handed the men’s team their only loss in GLVC play last year. For the women, Truman State is #1 in the conference, #2 in the region and #10 in the NCAA Division II rankings.

The women’s team was featured in an NCAA article highlighting Division II teams that have surprisingly climbed the national rankings.

In the article, coach Greg Herdlick said, “The team has a very nice blend of ‘veterans’ as well as newcomers to the squad this year. While we are ‘young’ in the backfield, the defense has come together rather quickly and worked extremely well as a unit.”
