Rockhurst University’s Student Activities Board (SAB) is preparing for one of the biggest and most anticipated student events of the year: Rockstock.
Held April 22–25, Rockstock is a weeklong series of events ending with a live concert, designed to give students a break before finals and celebrate the end of the academic year.
This year’s Rockstock theme is “beach,” and students are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts and leis to the events.
The festivities begin Tuesday, April 22, with a launch party from 7 to 9 p.m. on Lower Bourke. The event will feature a variety of free food options, including a pretzel truck and Kona Ice. Students can also enjoy an airbrush station for custom hats, yard games and chances to win raffle prizes.
On Wednesday, April 23, students can attend a bracelet-making event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rock Room.
The fun continues Thursday, April 24, with a farmers market from 4 to 6 p.m., also in the Rock Room. SAB has purchased items from local businesses for the market, offering students free selections while spotlighting the small business community. During the market, students can also pick up free Rockstock T-shirts and enjoy High Hopes Ice Cream outside of Massman Hall.
Friday, April 25, caps off the week with two final events: a carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. and a concert starting at 9 p.m.
Weather permitting, the carnival will be held on Lower Bourke and will include an inflatable obstacle course, games, a photo booth and beach-themed snacks like walking tacos, burritos, mocktails and Dole Whip.
The concert, held in the Convocation Center, will open its doors at 7:30 p.m. Rising R&B artist Samaria will perform at 8 p.m., followed by pop artist Nicky Youre at 9 p.m., best known for his hits “Sunroof ” and “Eyes on You.”
Students are allowed to bring one guest, who must be 18 or older and show a valid ID at the door. Students will be required to present either a physical student ID or use the university’s digital ID app for entry. Outside beverages are not allowed, but water will be provided inside.
Rockstock was created with students in mind, offering a fun and stress-free escape before a busy week of final exams.
“Come to the events during the week to enjoy a relaxing time before finals and get some free stuff in the process,” said Abby Malone, SAB president. “And pop out to Rockstock to enjoy a fun, free live music concert.”
While the week of Rockstock offers students a chance to unwind, the experience is made possible by months of preparation and behind-the-scenes teamwork. She emphasized that this is a collaborative effort with contributions from Student Life, dining, security, grounds and IT at Rockhurst.
“The SAB executive board starts prepping Rockstock at the very beginning of the year, booking the artist, working with the stage crew, planning events for the week and ensuring all the details are in place,” Malone said.
The collaboration between SAB and campus departments transforms Rockstock into more than just a series of events. It becomes a unifying experience for the Rockhurst community. From food and games to music and memories, the week offers students a well-earned break and a stronger sense of connection before heading into finals.
