The Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) sorority at Rockhurst University will host its annual Think Pink Week from Oct. 6-10 to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and education. With events planned for each day, all proceeds will go toward breast cancer awareness initiatives.
Partnered with the American Cancer Society, the NFL and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, ZTA’s national philanthropy focuses on breast cancer awareness and education, with the mission of reducing the impact of the disease. Chapters across the country organize efforts throughout the year to support the cause, particularly during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Rockhurst’s Think Pink Week is a small but significant part of this larger effort.
“Think Pink Week is a perfect time to come together for a great cause,” said junior Jadyn Steele, vice president of ZTA. “Not only are these events fun, but every dollar spent is donated to breast cancer awareness and education. Our efforts, along with your participation, can make a significant impact.”
The week kicks off Sunday, Oct. 6, with Pink Out soccer games at Bourke Field. The women’s soccer team plays at noon, followed by the men’s game at 2:30 p.m. Supporters are encouraged to attend and purchase a Think Pink T-shirt, which the Hawks will sport as they warm up to face the Lewis University Flyers.
On Monday, ZTA will partner with Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) for “Pie a Guy” in the quad outside Massman Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For a small donation, participants can throw a pie in the face of one of the brothers in the fraternity.
Tuesday’s activity features a Yogurtini profit share, where a portion of the Plaza location’s sales will be donated to breast cancer research and education when attendees mention ZTA anytime that day.
On Wednesday, the sorority will host “Painting and Pancakes” in the Party Barn at 7:30 p.m. Participants can enjoy breakfast for dinner or a snack of pancakes while engaging in a relaxed painting session.
The week concludes Thursday night at 9 p.m. with the fan-favorite Big Man on Campus competition, an all-male beauty pageant, where men from Rockhurst men participate in onstage questions, a talent show and a group dance. Judges will select a winner to be named “Big Man on Campus” and receive admission to the sorority’s next formal event.
Tables will be set up in Massman Hall throughout the week, providing information and selling tickets. Tickets are $3 if purchased in advance during the week and $5 at the door of events. Additionally, baked goods will be available for sale at the tables to help raise further funds.
At each event, ZTA will distribute small pink ribbon pins as a reminder to continue raising awareness of breast cancer.
Beyond the fun nature of the week, the meaning behind the events supports a cause important to the hearts of many, including those at Rockhurst.
“Think Pink Week is so important to my family and me as my mom is in a current fight with breast cancer. The efforts Zeta makes every day, but especially this week, are incredible and I know mean so much to other families as well,” said junior Sarah Pyle, a member of ZTA. “The constant fundraising for women in their battles is truly inspiring and I am so glad I am a part of this amazing sorority.”
ZTA invites the entire Rockhurst community to participate in this year’s Think Pink Week events. For further information and updates, check the sorority’s Instagram, @zetarockhurst.
