This past season, Rockhurst women’s volleyball had two players receive All-American awards in the honorable mention category, Tera Reberry and Maureen Reilly. These two seniors have been crucial players for Rockhurst volleyball and have set the standard for the program’s future.
The standout players received these accolades from the AVAC NCAA Division II Volleyball Association.
Reilly is from Overland Park, Kansas and is majoring in biochemistry with a minor and general business. Next season she plans to take graduate classes at Rockhurst and continue playing into her fifth year. She will be working towards healthcare management and change management certificates, both of which are part of the MBA program. She also plans to apply to a physician’s assistant program starting next year.
She had an outstanding season with 688 digs, a highly respectable number. She is the fourth-place record holder of all time at Rockhurst University in career digs. Alongside Reberry, she was recently honored at a Rockhurst basketball game for her All-American achievement:
“My teammates and coaches have played a major role in my improvement, and I owe them a lot of credit. I appreciated that Rockhurst recognized individual honors and team awards at the basketball game.” Reilly said.
Reberry, from Pleasant Hill, Missouri also had an outstanding season. Majoring in molecular biology with a minor in theology and religious studies, she also plans to play her fifth year while attending graduate school at Rockhurst.
She has also been accepted into and will attend the ATSU-Kirksville College of Medicine to become a physician, and hopefully one day, an anesthesiologist.
She had 322 kills, 91 blocks, and 380 points this season, ranking her 11th place in career kills at Rockhurst.
Both athletes’ favorite memories from the season came from beating Lewis University in the first NCAA tournament round. They had previously lost to that team in conference play, making this a large win for Rockhurst sports and women’s volleyball , specifically.
When speaking with Reberry about how this honor affected her, she stated:
“Being honored as an All-American was very exciting. It has been a goal of mine for a long time and to accomplish that meant the world to me and was a testament of all the work and love I’ve put into volleyball over the years. I felt very grateful for my team and the coaching staff because without them I could never have accomplished this goal. I love this program, so I felt very honored to have earned this type of award while representing Rockhurst volleyball.”
Recent seasons at Rockhurst have proved to be successful for not only women’s volleyball, but the entire school, more athletes being honored with similar All-American awards. Anna Lantz and Jacopo Belardo, for example, both received Academic All-American awards for their respective achievements in soccer.
It is safe to say that with these recent wins, along with the record-setting Reberry and Reilly, the entire student body at Rockhurst is excited to see what the future seasons hold for our university sports!
