Arrupe Hall temporarily evacuated Monday morning
September 18, 2017
At approximately 10:30 a.m. Monday, students, faculty and staff noticed a smell of gas in Arrupe Hall. Under the direction of professors, many classes evacuated the building voluntarily.
Campus security responded to the smell of gas and conducted a quick investigation. At 11:15 a.m., security send a campus-wide message and said the building was “evacuated due to the possible smell of gas.”
Security attributed the smell of gas to a diesel truck that had been sitting idle outside of Arrupe Hall. Air vents had pulled fumes from the truck into the building, security said. The building and air were deemed safe for reentry into the building prior to classes that were scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Those classes started on time with little interruption.
